HISTORY

The baroque palais was built in 1702 by architect Christian Alexander Oedtl for Johann Carl Freiherr von Geymann. In 1755 the property was bought by Maria Theresia Countess of Windisch-Graetz, a member of a prominent Austrian noble family. The state rooms were not only used as a family home but also utilized for diplomatic and representative receptions. After Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria appointed his Serene Highness Alfred III. Prince of Windisch-Greatz as k.&.k. Prime Minister of Austria, his Imperial Majesty and his prime minister allegedly smoked cigars while philosophizing about political strategies in the salon of the Windisch-Graetz palace.

STUCCO

The impressive stucco is a valuable part in the palace’s heart. Tender tendrils form the ceiling stucco in the stairwell and in some of the adjoining rooms on the first and second floors.
